The current rate of divorce is somewhere between 40% and 50%, and the number for subsequent marriages is even higher. This pandemic, having couples cooped up at home with each other has taken a toll (sometimes a heavy one) on relationships. In some cases, relationships have taken some baffling turns.
Most couples are hungry for good, effective communication that can improve the quality of their intimate, personal relationships. Empathic awareness and personal self-reflection support us along the path that starts with attraction and moves on to test the strength of our heart before finally arriving at the joy of unconditional love.
For 16 years, I have been helping couples avoid divorce. And I can help you express the love you long to share.
I had been working with Susan and Richard through a rough patch which we broke through. Encouraged, Susan asked Richard if we could tackle a painful issue that for years caused pain and distrust. Richard was willing.
After each of them described their trouble, I asked them to define the meaning of the word that was the source of their pain. To their surprise, but not to mine, they had totally different understandings of that word. They were delighted.
Once the session ended, we all stood up. Instead of leaving, they both opened their wallets, and each dropped several $20.00 bills into my hands, even though they had already paid for the session. Surprised, I asked “Why?” Their reply was “You have helped us more than the therapist with whom we had worked.”
The funny thing about words is that they are only a rough map of the territory of human experience. My work goes beyond the map, getting to the territory of love.
