by Chief Richard “SunHawk” Heart (Dr. Richard Heart PhD)
O’siyo. My name is Richard Sabastian Heart. When I was 10 years old, I started doing healing work (friends and family), and when I turned 33, I went to a Cherokee gathering in Ellijay, Georgia. That day, the Great Spirit touched my heart and put me publicly on the healing path. In 2008, I was led to The United Cherokee Nation (UCN.com) and today I volunteer as the national secretary for UCN and as the New Mexico Clan Chief.
My work as a Healer at the Priory of Santa Fe, Native Health Service Providers (Holistic Medical Clinic) is in conjunction with my wife, Dr. Angelique Hart, Integrative M.D., in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Born in the state of New Mexico, raised in Oklahoma and southern California, my grandfather always said that we were black Irish (Indians living near the Irish). My grandfather’s oldest son Kenneth Cannon (1927–1995) also known as Chief Two Trees of Black Mountain/Old Fort, North Carolina received his Medicine from his Grandmother Mary Edna Andes (“Eyes of Fire”, 1876–1966) and her husband George Washington Cannon (1871-1936).
Chief Two Trees made his transition into the spirit world in 1995. In 2005, we honored the ten-year celebration of his life in Old Fort, North Carolina. The afternoon before that celebration started, Chief Two Trees appeared to me in the smoke of a Fire Ceremony as a bear and was playing a drum. Later that evening, in a vision and said that he was passing his Medicine onto me (energy/healing work is passed on through the ancestral line as “Medicine”). When I asked him why, he pointed to my heart and said, “pure heart”. To this day, I still carry the symbol of that vision over my heart.
In the January, February 2019 issue of Truly Alive, we published an article of a compelling story of healing from fibromyalgia. You can find it on the TA website: https://trulyalive.net/my-story-of-fibromyalgia/. It was written by one of our Holistic Medical Clinic patients that worked with both Dr. Hart and myself. More of our amazing stories of natural, alternative healing will come in the future. Stay tuned.
I utilize a wide array of healing tools with my clients; indigenous and holistic, including Shamanic healing (ancient and modern), Cranio Sacral and muscle manipulation (bodywork), Emotional, Mental, Spiritual healing, Sound (and) Light Vibrational healing, Crystal healing and more.
