Over the last four years; I wrote various tech tips and tricks because I believe that all of us should have a choice when it comes to how we approach technology on our terms. Personally, writing here at Truly Alive Magazine was an outlet for my desire to write, educate, and be of useful service to others.
The reason I have my objectives shared here is that at the peak of my career in my previous life in California; I learned that much of the technology industry was built upon manipulation. We are all familiar with sales tactics; as a consumer, we are bombarded with sales pitches, information, pressure pitches to buy, buy, buy. A lot of times we draw them in because we are looking for a solution to a problem. As a marketer, we are given a lot of information; data about how the human psyche works; direct or indirect data about the Law of Attraction; and many strategies that would enable us to succeed. However, what that training does not highlight is how these vehicles to success affects those around us…including those who we do not see. In recent years, I have become more and more aware of these effects; and like the world around us; it has become unbalanced; and some of you may be painfully aware of this imbalance in your daily lives.
Having said that; the biggest question that many, including myself, have is: How do we begin to right this imbalance? How do I stop contributing to the problem?
I gave up my previous life when my world was turned upside down and left California to pursue living a different way. I still dependent on my “computer guy” skills (because I am essentially a one-trick pony). I use them to meet my basic needs while I continue to cultivate spiritual pursuits – while endeavoring to keep my participation in the “profit over people” world as minimalistic as practical.
For the last couple of years; I have been on an extended walkabout in Latin America; inspired by the events I witnessed while participating in the Standing Rock protests in North Dakota in 2016. I became even more aware of the above-mentioned effects that our conventional and modern lifestyles have on those who do not live in it. What I have discovered and witnessed firsthand has inspired me to make more changes, and I am now at a place where I am being called upon to apply everything I have learned; and the further changes I desire to make on a scale outside of just myself.
My current endeavor is to highlight and support others who are striving to make different choices and make a difference. In my current location of San Cristobal de las Casas; there is such a high concentration of such beings mixed amongst foreigners (Mexicans, and the indigenous including the Maya), that on a daily basis, I learn something new about this place, and am constantly surprised by the projects that the locals here are doing to resist the encroachment of the “developed civilization”.
There are a few unspoken conditions here that require me to support myself and my endeavors with foreign income. Some refer to this as the “digital nomad” lifestyle. I am approaching this lifestyle in a different manner…with the highlight and support of others being at the forefront of my sponsoring thoughts and feelings. At the same time, I thought that it was important that I also connect with those in the “developed world” and show others who are willing to see life down here and extend an open invitation for all of us to learn more, and potentially engage these endeavors.
Over the next few months; I will have a pair of vastly updated websites, social media presence, crowd funding campaigns, educational products and remote services lined up to help facilitate this new endeavor.
Please join me and help collaborate and co-create a more balanced world as it applies to all of us, no matter where we may be physically on the planet. If you would like to learn more, or to inquire on how you can help, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and stay tuned!
