Start 2020 off with a more youthful you. Micro-needling improves skin tone, reduces fine lines, tightens skin and promotes collagen and elastin production. It’s easy and natural with micro-needling. It is one of the newest, most effective, affordable procedures for reducing the appearance of acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and stretch marks. Although used mostly on the face, it can be performed on other parts of the body. The micro-needling procedure is performed with a sterile, single-use disposable fine needle tip and a collagen-stimulating serum.
Watch the following 3-minute video to see what a treatment looks like:
A pen shaped device with a sterile needle-tip is used in the procedure. While most clinics use tips that have 11 or 12 micro-needles, we use a 36 needle-tip for improved results. The depth of the needles is determined by the severity of the skin condition. Deeper penetration of the skin increases the production of collagen, making the skin more toned and elastic. The micro-channels created by the needles, allows the serums used during treatment to be absorbed more effectively and enhances treatment results. Many clinical studies have proven that skin micro-needling is as effective (or more effective) as other procedures like, laser, resurfacing, chemical peels or dermabrasion.
Lasers use a focused light to stimulate collagen and elastin by using heat to vaporize the top layers of skin, reducing wrinkles and tightening the skin. Lasers work well but may lead to complications when treating patients with darker skin. With micro-needling, there is no heat and no burning, making the treatment safer and more comfortable, with a much shorter recovery time. Micro-needling thickens the dermis without removing or damaging the epidermis or top layer. The procedure gives a “prickly” sensation that feels a little like sandpaper rubbed against the skin but is not painful. Most people experience redness or swelling for 4 to 48 hours, which may create a sensation similar to mild sunburn.
Most patients notice an improvement in the way their skin looks in just a day or two (some immediately). The improvement will become more evident within a few days and continues to increase over a few weeks. For most patients, we recommend 2 to 3 treatments, 4 to 5 weeks apart. For scar and stretch mark reduction, an average of 3 to 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart are recommended. Give us a call today and get your questions answered.
