Making Marks: Discover the Art of Intuitive Drawing unlocks our intuitive intelligence by evoking the natural impulses, creative powers, and youthful heart that lies within each of us. Artist and author Elaine Clayton teaches readers the importance of practicing stream-of-consciousness drawing in order to open up the mind for emphatic sensing, healing, and empowerment—tools that are much needed during a time of world crises.
In Making Marks, readers will reconnect with their creative selves for growth and inspiration through the intuitive language of making marks.
Between the COVID-19 pandemic, social changes, human rights activism, stay-at-home orders, career transitions, and much more, many are seeking an escape, and Clayton offers just that. In an effort to help others and inspire hope to those struggling, she is working with several groups and organizations, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s project Creating for a Cause, to teach stream drawing as a source for self-care and stress-reducing activities.
Clayton invites readers to explore a non-goal-oriented, doodle-like stream-of-consciousness drawing technique. Here, finished sketches are unimportant, while self-discovery is paramount. Many open-ended exercises, which are written in an engaging, descriptive narrative style, encourage readers to make marks on paper as a way of exploring memory, tapping into their own creative force and logic, and even connecting with others. —Library Journal Review
