What if women talked about, and talked to, their own wombs? What if an elder woman sang to your womb, bringing honor where there may have been shame, or where the womb may have been previously ignored?
As a child of 13 (55 years ago), I was just getting the hang of how to be a person – and then my bleeding started. Without any acknowledgement or ceremony from the adult women in my life, I felt that my body had betrayed me. I buried my feelings; I got on with my life. But I still felt distanced from the warm core of a woman’s life, my body.
Now, in the present, I seek to help remedy this situation for women: I share wisdom, I hold a book group, and I sing to wombs. The womb has the deep intelligence and awareness of how to help a woman stay alive to her innate nature, her wild essential primal self who can’t be lied to, as well as the miracle of how to bring a baby into this world. The womb is a deep source of wisdom, but women have been taught to ignore it.
The awakened womb can hold deep compassion, just like Kwan Yin’s vase. So, I seek to help awaken your womb to the awareness of her ancient lineage: Pandora’s vase. Wait, wasn’t that a box? No. In the 16th century, Erasmus of Rotterdam mistranslated the original Greek, which said ‘vase’; he gave us ‘box’. The ancient, older-than-the-patriarchy story told of Pan-dora: Her name means “All-Giving”. Her womb – Earth’s ‘vase’ – was the source of all living things.
Our wombs can and do respond to our awareness. When we unconsciously abandon them, as I abandoned mine, they can hurt. We can remedy that disconnect, that deeply buried misery. It doesn’t matter whether you still are or are not now a beautiful bleeding woman; you were, and negative energy that may still be stuck can be released.
Contact me for information about the book group, where we share our own experiences. I also teach simple chants for honoring your bleeding. During this unsettled time, we can do many things over the phone; singing to the womb requires personal presence. Thank you!
