Happy New Year dear readers. It is the beginning of a New Year and as always, it’s with mixed emotions. Some people are optimistic and confident; looking forward to new accomplishments in the year ahead. Others move forward with no so happy outlook whatsoever.
I decided to pick the topic of “Aging Gracefully” for this article because I hear the term all the time. But somehow, it seems that gracefully has a different meaning for different people. So, I decided to look up the word “gracefully” in the dictionary. It is defined as: Elegant, Tasteful and Refined.
As I have mentioned in previous articles, the skin undergoes chronological changes as we get older:
- Alterations in the skin texture and elasticity
- Alterations in skin pigmentation
- Alterations in subcutaneous tissue
- Alterations in vascular system
In simple terms, this means: wrinkles, saggy skin, dark spots, ugly growths and spider veins. I don’t know about you, but I don’t see anything graceful on these types of skin changes.
Aging gracefully doesn’t mean that you have to wear your wrinkles, spots and growths with pride. You can do whatever is necessary to take good care of your skin and enjoy your older years with confidence.
It’s is about “maintaining” not “pretending”. We cannot pretend to look like 30 when we are 60 (who are we kidding). And it doesn’t mean to become obsessed and panic with every little tiny wrinkle or tiny freckle in our face. It is about having healthy-looking skin.
