Each year for the January/February issue of Truly Alive, I do my best to feature a book on healthy eating, fitness or some other topic related to starting off the New Year in a healthy way. This year, the featured book Cravings Boss is written to help us understand and manage our food cravings. I chose it because I feel that most us have food cravings which are succumbed to rather than managed (which is perhaps evidenced by the high percentage of Americans who are overweight). When I talk to most people about food, the majority agree that we, as a culture, use food to soothe us emotionally and this has led to too many of us being unhealthy. This coping mechanism is not, in my opinion serving us and if this book can help even a few people transform their unhealthy responses to food cravings to healthy ones, I will be very happy to have contributed to the change.
From hurricanes to flooding, earthquakes to landslides, cyclones, wildfires and severe storms, this year has seen some of the deadliest (and costly) natural disasters in history. And our political climate hasn’t fared much better.
It is my greatest, most heartfelt wish that 2018 will be an unprecedented contrast; extremely gentle and loving, with miracle stories of help and kindness flooding our news and our lives. In support of positive news, Truly Alive is introducing its new “Best News Around the Planet” page, highlighting a positive, uplifting news story each issue (see page 34).
Also starting with the January/February 2018 issue, you will find a change in the astrology section. Instead of personal 2-month forecasts covering 2 pages, the new focus will be on how astrology is predicted to affect us on planet-wide and cultural basis over the same two-month period and will cover one page.
In the November/December issue, I wrote about saying goodbye to having Truly Alive Magazines available for pickup at Albertson’s and Smith’s stores and asked readers to suggest new places we could expand our company-owned and company filled racks. I offered a $250 prize for the reader providing the most suggestions for new locations (which worked out). Your responses were wonderful, and we are grateful for numerous new locations. (See page 29 for more info.) Enjoy!
